Thursday 30th September

What did YOU get from the test? How are YOU going to use the test to help YOU prepare for future assessments. Make a list for YOU!!!

In class we looked at 3 equations all related to energy....Work Done; Power ; Gravitational Potential Energy.

Please make sure that you are familiar with the equations, symbols and units.

Apologies for the mix up with the homework...but let's all get it right for Tuesday. :-)

Have a good weekend

Tuesday 28th September

I know tests are never fun....but they are important as they show you where you are needing to do a little more work.

Results will be available from tomorrow morning.

Don't forget the homework that I asked you to do for Friday...remember layout of the questions are the key to your success.

Any queries please see me on Wednesday or Thursday....in school from 7.30am and won't be leaving before 5.30 / 6...

Friday 24th September

I hope that going over the homework the way we did has given you some useful tips for the test on Tuesday. Don't forget...you can always come and see me on Monday, but please note I will not be around at the end of the school day.

Newton's Third law and the implications for collisions were our main focus today.

I hope that you can clearly see the importance of laying out the momentum conservation problems carefully.

Learn the statement of conservation of momentum....don't forget the words..'in the absence of any resultant external forces'.

Homework for Friday 1st October is pages 9 / 10 nos 2,6,8,10 and 11

Have a good weekend....don't forget to revise regularly and do lots of examples.

Tuesday 21st September

Applying Newton's third law gave us the conservation of momentum. The experiments showed that momentum is conserved if there are no external forces (like friction or someone giving it a push !)

There is a formal definition you need to learn but more of that next lesson.

For Friday you must take a long hard look at your notes - the test is on Tuesday......use the LOs - can you colour them green / tick them off. Don't forget to bring in any queries and either see me before class on Friday or ask during class.

No formal homework but revision is the order of the day. Use the questions in your notes.....don't just look at them try them again.

Good luck and happy revising

Thursday 16th September

Going over homework in this way I hope helps you to 'see' where you can avoid making erorrs.

I know that writing down data and equations may seem tiresome, but it is important and could save you marks!!!

This way you can avoid needless errors.

So don't take short cuts follow the rules :-)

Thanks to Ollie we 'saw' the balanced equal and opposite forces that led us to Newton's 3rd Law....It is important that you learn this definition (just as you have learned Newton 1 and Newton 2....you have...haven't you ?)

Identifying paired forces can be tricky but you were getting the hang of it by the last few examples. Just remember you only look at one point....not every where at once.

So what does Newton's Third law also mean.....momentum and trolleys colliding. This is what we will do next time.

Don't forget your homework and start revising for the test....

Great lesson ..well done

Tuesday 14th September

A good 'catch up class'. Many of you missed the last lesson due to the Chemistry trip but I hope that you are all now happy with the idea that:
horizontal velocity of a projectile is constant
vertical velocity of a projectile is uniform acceleration (the word uniform is very important).
all objects (no matter what their mass) will fall to earth with the same uniform acceleration - this is g = 10 m/s^2 = 10 N/kg

Homework for Thursday 16th - complete questions 1 to 5 on page 31

Homework for Tuesday 21st - complete the handout homework

Test on this topic only - Tuesday 28th September.

Good work....don't forget to do your homework. I am off to mark your homework.

Don't forget to ask questions if you need help.

9th September 2010

Those in the class revised vectors and did work on acceleration...sorry you missed that.

I hope you enjoyed Enterprise Day and the Geography Field Trip.

Have a good weekend.

Don't forget the homework due on Tuesday.

Tuesday 7th September

Sorry I was not in class but Mr L tells me that you worked extremely well for him - thank you so much for that.

With Mr L you :
measured 'g' - you must tell me if you got good results or not.....
began your study of projectiles - looked at bodies of different masses falling and the pulsed water drop....

Please do not worry if you missed class due to the Chemistry trip - I will make sure you catch up....

Enjoy Thursday's Enterprise event - if you are attending it - and I will see some of you in class.

Don't forget homework for Day 7 - 14th September.

Vectors..are they fun - 3rd September 2010

Well..delighted to be back blogging to you all for a second year.

I do believe that you have 'cracked' acceleration and I was very impressed with the way that you tackled the vector addition questions I set you in class....we will keep working on this until you are 100% happy :-)

Don't forget homework ...set for 14th September ...a first for me to give you so long to do the work..but lots of exciting things happening in between then and now...and the homework is to complete the acceleration questions on page 25....nos 7 to 15

Enjoy the fireworks on Sunday if you are going...forecast looks good and I will see some of you on Thursday.
